Hello, I am Dr. Seymour Weaver. Obesity is no joke. More than 70% of the population of the United States is considered overweight(31%) and obese (39.6%) and those numbers are disproportionately higher for African American men and women (72 % of men and 80% of African American women) who are considered obese or overweight. What is even more difficult to deal with is that there are so many different factors that can cause obesity including:
· Eating processed foods that lack the basic nutrients he human body needs to function properly
· Regular daily consumption of fast food and sodas
· Genetics – heavier parents can equate to heavier children
· Hormonal changes during aging
· Weight gain due to pregnancy and childbirth
· Sedentary lifestyles
· Stress – overworked, overly busy and trying to be a super parent all at the same time.
Earlier in my practice as a dermatologist and body shaping surgeon, I encountered many people who would come to me for procedures to improve their body shape concerns related to weight problems –It was then that I started to realize the difficulty individuals experienced with their weight and I began doing deeper research and I eventually discovered that the most successful weight loss programs that had been tried for over 100 years helped only ten percent at most of the people who started the programs to actually lose and keep off the weight.
I found this hard to accept and kept digging for more answers. Eventually I came across some *data that individuals who participated in a coaching program with guided assistance for a year was able to help up to 60% of the participants to lose weight and keep it off on a long-term basis.
However, what I also learned in the course of my research is that weight loss is more than just diet, exercise and weight loss pills or supplements – it is about making a lifestyle choice and truly developing the right mindset; that is why I have written this book. In these pages I have put together concepts so that a person will learn why their mindset is an important part of making a lifestyle change; how to match an eating plan to their own unique body rhythms; they will understand how their brain regulates appetite, and why it is best to avoid starvation-type diets
